DENIM FABRIC

Denim is a type of sturdy cotton twill fabric that is commonly used to make jeans, jackets, skirts, and other clothing items. It is usually dyed with indigo to produce the characteristic blue color, although denim can also come in other colors such as black, gray, and white.

One of the unique features of denim is its diagonal weaving pattern, known as the twill weave. This gives denim its distinctive diagonal ribbing or "wale" on the fabric's surface. The twill weave also makes denim very durable and strong, which is why it has become so popular for clothing that gets a lot of wear and tear.

Another important characteristic of denim is its weight, which can range from lightweight to heavyweight. The weight of denim is typically measured in ounces per square yard, with lightweight denim weighing around 4-8 ounces per square yard, and heavyweight denim weighing up to 16 ounces per square yard. Heavier denim tends to be more durable and long-lasting, but it can also be less comfortable to wear, especially in warmer weather.

There are many different types of denim fabrics available, including Stretch / Non-Stretch Denim, Shirting Denim, Knitted/Dobby Denim

  • Stretch Denim - is made from a combination of cotton, polyester, and spandex. The addition of spandex gives the fabric its stretchy quality, allowing it to mold to the body and provide more comfort and flexibility. Stretch denim is often used to make skinny jeans, jeggings, and other fitted clothing items that require a more form-fitting silhouette.
  • Non-Stretch Denim - is made from 100% cotton and is known for its durability and stiffness. It has a classic denim look and is often used to make jeans, jackets, and other sturdy garments that require little to no stretch.
  • Shirting Denim - is a type of denim fabric that is specifically designed for use in dress shirts and other lighter-weight garments. Unlike traditional denim fabric, shirting denim is typically made from a lighter weight cotton, which makes it more breathable and comfortable to wear.
  • Knitted Denim - is a type of woven denim fabric which looks or designed similar to knitted fabric. It's made up with combination of cotton, polyester, spandex yarns. Both Airjet or Rapir weaving machines are used to produced these structured designed denims. Knitted denim has a unique look and feel compared to traditional woven denim. Because of these special characteristics knitted denim is highly in demand in current Indian market.
  • Dobby Denim - is a type of woven denim that has a textured pattern created by the use of a dobby loom. The dobby loom is a type of weaving machine that is used to create small, repeating patterns in the fabric, such as dots, diamonds, or stripes. Dobby denim is often used in clothing items such as jackets, pants, and skirts, and can add a unique texture and visual interest to the garment. The pattern can be subtle or bold, depending on the desired look.

Overall, denim is a versatile, durable, and timeless fabric that has become a staple in many people's wardrobes.
